Septic System Design For Acushnet Client

Down to Earth Construction Services are providing a septic system design for a customer in Acushnet MA. All Septic Systems are designed specifically for their own site and have variances which make them unique but most systems are based on the same principles. A conventional septic system consists of a septic tank, a distribution box and a drainfield. Your septic system treats your household wastewater by temporarily holding it in the septic tank where heavy solids and lighter scum are allowed to separate from the wastewater. The solids stored in the tank are decomposed by bacteria and later pumped out. After partially treated wastewater leaves the tank, it flows into a distribution box, which separates this flow evenly into a network of drainfield trenches. Drainage holes at the bottom of each line allow the wastewater to drain into gravel trenches for temporary storage. This effluent then slowly seeps into the subsurface soil where it is further treated and purified. We have many years experience working in this region and know not only the state septic requirements but also those of the individual towns that we work in. Therefore we can help prevent delays for our customers which often happens if a septic design is not correct or doesn’t follow town BOH regulations. We have recently provided septic designs for customers in Carver, West Bridgewater, Oxford and Attleboro MA. If you need a septic system design or if you have septic questions please do contact our Norton office in 508-622-5759 or visit http://www.downtoearthconst.com

Septic Repairs Including an Outlet Baffle and D-Box Repair

Down to Earth Construction Services have experience with all parts of a septic system and today have a septic repair scheduled which is specifically to repair an outlet baffle and D-Box for a customer in Mattapoisett. It is essential that all parts of a septic system are working correctly to ensure that the entire system is doing the job that it is supposed to including the septic tank, d-box, leach field and outlet baffle. A septic system that is failing is a large problem which can cause a serious health threat to your family and neighbors, degrade the environment, especially lakes, streams and groundwater, reduce the value of your property, be very expensive to repair and put thousands of water supply users at risk if you live in a public water supply watershed and fail to maintain your system. If you have a septic system you should be observant and if you notice signs that you have a septic problem you should not ignore them in the hope that the problem will fix itself. A septic problem if left will not get better and while you procrastinate it can become a much larger, more difficult and more expensive problem to fix. Signs that you could have a septic problem are:

  • sewage surfacing over the drainfield (especially after storms)

  • sewage back-ups in the house

  • lush, green growth over the drainfield

  • slow draining toilets or drains

  • sewage odors

Today we also have septic repair appointments for customers in Marion, Fall River, Fairhaven, Freetown and Acushnet MA. If you think that you may have a septic problem or have questions about your septic system please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Septic Inspections For Property Sales And Property Renovations

Down to Earth Construction Services has hundreds of septic inspections scheduled each year, often with property owners who have a septic system and need their system to be inspected before they can proceed with the sale of that property. However we do have inspections scheduled for other reasons. Today we have septic inspections scheduled in Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, Fall River, Acushnet and Swansea MA and one of those is not for a client who is selling their property. Instead they have been renovating their property and require an inspection because their extensive renovations require a building permit. As explained on the Mas Gov Website:

‘These situations require a system inspection only if the modification requires a building permit or occupancy permit. For example:

  • adding a bedroom to a house

  • adding seats to a restaurant

  • changing the type of business operating at a commercial location.

Check with your Building Department or Board of Health to find out if your modification meets these requirements.

Any change in the footprint of a building also requires an inspection to determine the location of the system, to ensure that construction will not be located on top of any system components or on the reserve area. Check with your local Board of Health.’

Distribution Box (D-Box) Replacement and Septic Repairs

Down to Earth Construction Services are replacing a D-Box for a customer today in Freetown, MA. A septic distribution box  (D-Box) is a container used to receive septic system effluent from a septic tank and to re-distribute the effluent into a network of attached drainfield or soakaway bed absorption trenches and pipes. The distribution box works by gravity, flowing effluent into the drainfield (or leach field) piping network. It must be installed correctly to ensure that it  distributes evenly. You must also maintain your septic system and the best way to do this is to have your system regularly pumped and to use your septic system correctly. The following are some steps that you can take to ensure that you maintain your septic system:

  • Minimize the use of the garbage disposal

  • Do not put grease down your drains

  • Spread loads of laundry out over time rather than doing multiple loads in a short period of time, and use liquid detergents rather than powdered detergents

  • Avoid excessively long showers

  • Avoid leaving tap water running when shaving, brushing teeth or doing other personal or household tasks

  • Do not flush medications, harmful chemicals, excessive amounts of bleach, harsh drain cleaners or degreasers

  • Have the septic tank pumped at least every three years

  • Do not add any septic systems cleaners, enzymes or additives

  • Remove water conditioning backwash discharges from the septic system

  • Do not plant trees and shrubs over leach fields

  • Do not flush personal products, paper towels, wipes or diapers

  • Do not clean or rinse paint brushes in the sinks

  • Equip all hot tubs, spas, whirlpool baths, etcetera with drain limiting valves that will only allow five gallons per minute to drain from fixture

  • Do not drive vehicles over leach fields

We also have septic repairs for customers today in Acushnet, Fall River, Fairhaven and Lakeville MA. Many of these repairs could have been avoided if the property owners had followed some of the above advice. If you need a septic repair or if you have any questions about your septic system please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com
