We are doing a PERC (percolation) test today for a customer in Rochester MA. A perc test, or percolation test, is a soil test that is performed before installing a septic system tank. The perc test is extremely important because it measures the level of liquid absorption of the soil where the proposed septic tank will be located. It determines how quickly the material from the septic system will be absorbed into the soil. We also have a septic system flow test scheduled in Fall River MA. We have recently also provided septic engineering services to other clients in Bolton, Fairhaven and Rehoboth MA. If you would be interested in these services or if you have any questions please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit Down to Earth Construction Services

A Title 5 Septic Inspection Determines A System’s Current Condition

Down to Earth Construction Services have Title 5 Septic Inspection appointments scheduled today for customers in Plainville, North Attleboro, Wrentham, Bellingham and Blackstone MA. The majority of these are inspections that are being done because the property owner is selling their property and it is required that a Title 5 Septic Inspection has been done on the system within 2 years of title transfer taking place. This usually means that an inspection has to be carried out because it has been more than 2 years since one was last performed. It is important to note however that the septic inspection just determines the system’s current status. As further detailed on the Mass Gov Website:

“The purpose of the inspection is to determine if the system in its current condition can protect public health and the environment. The inspection does not guarantee that the system will continue to function adequately, or that the system will not fail at a later date. This is particularly important if you plan to increase the flow to the system.” For more infomation see the Mass Gov Website.

Therefore if you are buying a property with a septic system that has passed its Title 5 you need to be aware that you will need to continue to maintain your septic and there is no guarantee offered by a septic inspection that the system will continue to function correctly, especially if you have a larger family moving in or larger appliances because this will all result in an increase to the flow to the system. If you are concerned about your on going septic system maintenance you may want to consider our septic service plan. Property owners who are on our Preventative Maintenance Program can let us look after monitor and maintain their septic system so the uncertainty is taken away. If you need to schedule a Title 5 Septic Inspection or if you have questions about septic services please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit Down to Earth Construction Services

Septic System Upgrades For Customer in Wayland MA

Down to Earth Construction Services has an appointment today in Wayland MA today to add risers to a client’s septic tank in addition to a septic system effluent filter. Basic septic system upgrades can simplify maintenance, improve system function, and protect your drainfield for long-term savings. Access risers and effluent filters are two low-cost septic system upgrades for existing or new tanks that we can provide. The riser will help the owner and inspectors easily locate the tank, and they provide access for maintenance and repair. They also avoid the need to repeatedly dig up the lawn for routine inspections or pumping.The effluent filter is an inexpensive plastic filtering device that fits into the outlet end of the septic tank. The screen helps prevent solids from leaving the tank and clogging the drainfield, one of the most common causes of septic system failure. We have provided other septic tank upgrades for customers in Fall River, Rochester and Acushnet MA. If you would be interested in septic system upgrades or if you have any questions about our septic services or septic systems please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit Down to Earth Construction Services

Septic Repairs Including a Sewage Grinder Pump Repair

Down to Earth Construction Services have septic repairs including a sewage grinder pump repair today in East Bridgewater, Taunton, Middleboro, Lakeville, Carver and Norton MA. As with all parts of your septic system your sewage grinder pump is an essential part of your septic system. Waste from water-using household appliances (toilets, bathtubs, washing machines, etc.) flows through your home’s pipes into the grinder pump’s holding tank. Once the wastewater inside the tank reaches a specific level, the pump will turn on, grind the waste into a fine slurry and pump it to the central sewer system or septic tank. A sewage grinder pump does what the name suggests and is not something that you want to leave inoperative because more serious breakdowns and larger repairs may then be necessary. If you require a septic repair for any part of your septic system including the septic tank, leach field or drain field, distribution box or septic pump or if you have concerns about your septic system please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit http://downtoearthconst.com/septic-services/ where we will be happy to answer any questions you have and book an appointment if necessary.

The Property Owner is Responsible for Arranging Their Title 5 Septic Inspection When Selling

Down to Earth Construction Services has Title 5 Septic Inspection appointments scheduled today in Holliston, Canton, Sharon, Foxboro, and Stoughton MA. When you have a Title 5 septic inspection this is what is included:

  • General layout of the system components (location of the building sewer, septic tank or cesspool, distribution box and leaching field);

  • Type of use (e.g., house, school, retail space), Title 5 design flow, and whether the facility is presently occupied;

  • Analysis of the criteria specified in Title 5 that indicate system failure, and, for large systems, those which indicate threats to public health and the environment;

  • Water use records from the previous two years, if available;

  • A description of the septic tank, including its condition, approximate age, thickness of grease/scum layer, and other relevant information;

  • A characterization of the distribution box and dosing tanks with pumps, if any, such as condition and evidence of solids carryover or backup; and

  • The condition of the soil absorption system including, any signs of hydraulic failure.

We have found that many property owners who have scheduled an septic inspection do not know what it will entail because they have not needed to have one done before. Generally it is the seller of a property that is responsible to carrying out the septic inspection so unless you have previously owned and sold a property with a septic system you may not have previously needed to scheduled one.  This is made clear on the Mass Gov Website:

“The property owner or operator is responsible for arranging the inspection. The buyer and seller may change the responsibility for arranging the inspection prior to title transfer, provided that this change is put in writing and that the inspection still occurs within the specified timeframes.”

If you require a Title 5 Septic inspection or if you have any questions about septic inspections or septic systems please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit http://downtoearthconst.com/septic-services/

Septic Repair in Norton MA

All Clear SepticDown to Earth Construction Services know more than anyone would ever usually wish to know about septic systems and the waste that goes into them. Today we are at a customer location in Norton MA providing a septic repair because the waste that they have introduced to their septic system has actually harmed it. Most people would not know that a septic system is more than just a tank for waste. They are a balanced system that uses bacteria to reduce sludge and sulfite buildup. Our client had been using a strong household cleaners that has upset this balance and lead to septic drain field problems. It is always a good idea to make sure that if you wish to use strong cleaners that they are labeled ‘septic safe’. There are are also homemade cleaners that can be very effective and not damage your septic system. Baking soda mixed with other all natural ingredients can be used as an environmentally safe and natural cleaner for your toilet, sinks, tub, and drains. Using baking soda instead of harsh chemical cleaners such as bleach will keep all that important bacteria from being killed off. The good bacteria in your septic system is necessary because it breaks down all the waste that comes through the pipes. Without the good bacteria you will end up with clogs, back-ups and odors that wear away at your septic tank and eventually cause a septic system emergency.

Using baking soda is very easy. You can mix about a 1/4 cup of baking soda with 1/2 cup of vinegar and 2 tablespoons lemon to make your own natural cleaning agent. The baking soda will fizz up to help get the dirt and grime in your tub and drains.

We have other septic repair appointments scheduled today in Acushnet, New Bedford, Fairhaven, Mattapoisett and Marion MA. Drain Field Septic Repair Necessary In Rochester Due To Roots

Down to Earth Construction Services have expertise in many areas so that we can bring our customers the best possible septic services. For example we need landscaping and plant knowledge because septic systems, very often, are located in a customers yard with the landscaping and planting one would expect. However it is this landscaping that can cause problems. For example trees often have root systems that go far beyond what a homeowner expected when they first planted a tree seedling. Roots can infiltrate a septic drain field and really cause a lot of trouble. Roots even tend to grow toward drain fields because it is their job to find water for the tree. Today we are providing a drain field septic repair for a customer in Rochester MA whose tree roots have caused damage to the piping that is necessary for their leach field to work correctly. It is really advisable to only have grass growing on your leach field and not plant large bushes or trees on it to prevent these sorts or septic repairs being necessary. We also have other septic repair appointments in Mattapoisett, Marion, Fairhaven and Lakeville MA. If you require a septic repair or if you have any questions about septic systems please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit Down to Earth Construction Services
