Septic Repairs Can Often Be Avoided By Using Your System Correctly

Down to Earth Construction Services know that septic systems have to be used correctly for them to continue to work efficiently and function as they should. A large part of this is is just knowing what is being introduced to your septic system and making sure that anything that goes into it is appropriate and wont adversely affect your system. All wastewater makes its way to your septic system and everything that goes into your sink, toilet, washing machine and shower/bath will also get introduced into your septic system. Keep the following items out of your septic system to prevent problems:

  • paper towels

  • kitty litter

  • plastics

  • cooking oils or grease

  • disposable diapers

  • feminine hygiene products

  • any/all latex products

  • hazardous chemicals, pesticides and latex-based paints

  • water purification back flush

It is important to note, however, that each system is unique. Check with your septic system installer or manufacturer for a complete list of items that should not make their way into your system for maximum efficiency. There are also many other things that should stay out of your system and there is no way that we can list all of the items. We have found toys, dead fish, clothing and jewellery in septic systems and all of these items were causing a problem that led to us investigating the cause. Simply put if you are not sure do not put it in your wastewater. We have septic repairs scheduled today in Carver, Middleboro, Marshfield, Marion and Rochester MA. One of these repairs is necessary because the homeowner was unaware of the large volume of sand that was being introduced to their septic system via the washing machine and shower by their teenage children. It is wise to make sure that your entire family and visitors know that you have a septic system and there are certain, easily followed guidelines to follow to make sure you do not require a septic repair from our talented technicians. If however you do suspect that you require a septic repair or if you have any questions about septic systems please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit Down to Earth Construction Services

Septic Services Can Take The Worry From Septic System Maintenance

Down to Earth Construction Services know that many people who own a vehicle will schedule a service for their car when the service indicators come on or carry out their car maintenance themselves. As car owners we accept that maintaining our car is going to cost money but we use our vehicles daily so they need to be well maintained. The same is true for your septic system. There aren’t many properties that do not see their septic systems used daily. However a septic system is not the same as your car and many property owners turn to professionals, like Down to Earth Construction Services, to take care of their septic services. We have commercial and residential customers who rely upon us to take care of their septic systems so they do not need to worry about them. This is especially true for commercial customers who lose revenue when their septic system is not working. We will schedule septic services for our customers on a quarterly, biannual or annual basis depending on their septic system and the usage it gets. For example a busy restaurant that is open year round will need a service more frequently than a cafe that is only open in the summer ‘season’. Today we have septic services scheduled in Marion, Mattapoisett, Rochester, Acushnet, Freetown and Fairhaven MA. If you would be interested in scheduling a septic service or if you have any questions about septic systems or our septic services please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit Down to Earth Construction Services

Septic Systems Are Easily Maintained With Septic Services

Down to Earth Construction Services know that if you have never owned a property with a septic system the unknown can be a bit daunting. However a septic system or ‘on-site sewage system’ is a pretty simple and not an uncommon way for a property to process its own waste. A typical septic system consists of a septic tank and a drainfield. All water runs out of your house from one main drainage pipe into a septic tank which is a buried, water-tight container usually made of concrete, fiberglass, or polyethylene. Its job is to hold the wastewater long enough to allow solids to settle down to the bottom which forms a sludge, while the oil and grease floats to the top as scum. Compartments in the tank and a T-shaped outlet prevent the sludge and scum from leaving the tank and traveling into the drainfield area. The liquid wastewater, or effluent, then exits the tank into the drainfield. Finally the wastewater percolates into the soil, naturally removing harmful bacteria, viruses, and nutrients. Many homes in New England have their own septic system and they are not all way out in the countryside. As more and more property has been built it has not all been connected upto town sewer so many homes that are in towns and cities have their own septic systems. If you are unsure about septic system maintenance or just don’t want to have to worry about it a good solution may be a septic service plan. Septic services are an ideal way for property owners to be totally confident that their septic system maintenance is being done without have to concern themselves about it. We maintain, check and monitor the septic system and notify our customer if we find anything that may be a problem in the future which can prevent small septic problems becoming large and expensive septic failures. Today we have septic services scheduled in Freetown, Seekonk, Swansea, Marion, Fairhaven and Fall River MA. If you wish to schedule a septic service or if you have any questions about septic services please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

When Do You Need A Title 5 Septic Inspection?

Down to Earth Construction Services has Title 5 Septic Inspections scheduled for customers today in Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, Fall River, Marion and Freetown MA.

Massachusetts requires that you have a Title 5 Septic Inspection in the following instances:

  • Within 2 years before a sale. If weather conditions prevent inspection at the time of a sale, the inspection must take place within 6 months afterward.

  • When there is a proposed change to the facility which requires a building or occupancy permit.

  • Any change in the footprint of a building, to make sure that new building construction will not take place on top of any system components or on the system’s reserve area.

  • For large systems with a design flow of 10,000 to 15,000 gallons per day or more at full build-out, on the basin schedule shown in 310 CMR 15.301(6), and every five years thereafter.

  • Every 3 years for shared systems.

  • When the property is divided, or ownership of 2 or more properties is combined.

  • When MassDEP or the local Board of Health orders an inspection

For more information see https://www.mass.gov/guides/buying-or-selling-property-with-a-septic-system

A large portion of the inspections that we conduct are for property owners who are selling their property which has a septic system, either a commercial or residential. This is because most sellers have not bought their property in the last two years so do not have a current Title 5 Inspection for their property. The good news is that once it has been done it is valid for 2 years so once you have decided you are selling your property it is always a good idea to have the inspection done early in the sale process. You know it is likely that you will sell in two years so it will remain current and you will not have to worry about it causing delays later when you have sale deadlines. An inspection may highlight a problem and you will have time to fix it and once your property has passed its septic inspection that is another selling point. If you require a Title 5 Septic inspection, for any reason, or have questions about septic inspections or septic systems please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Cesspool Maintenance Is Important To Ensure You Do Not Pollute Your Environment

Down to Earth Construction Services has cesspool maintenance appointments today in Mattapoisett, Marion, Fairhaven, Swansea, Fall River and Freetown MA. A cesspool is any pit or container that receives wastewater from a house or building. The term “cesspool” is usually used to refer to an open pit that is lined with rocks or concrete, but an underground tank or holding container that is not connected to a drainfield can also be defined as a cesspool. The main function of cesspools is the storage of wastewater. The use of cesspools may overload the capacity of the soil to remove bacteria, viruses, and phosphorus, and to nitrify ammonia and organic nitrogen compounds. Cesspools are only found servicing older properties because other more efficient means of waste treatment are now available. We provide cesspool services and repairs and have also provided cesspool replacement when required. We recently replaced a cesspool for a customer in Southborough MA because it was starting to pollute the local groundwater. Ongoing cesspool maintenance by having it serviced and having pumpouts is especially important because to sustain the integrity of the environment you need to ensure your cesspool is operating correctly and the surrounding area is not saturated. If you have any questions about cesspools or wish to schedule a cesspool service please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit http://www.downtoearthconst.com
