Septic Services Make Septic System Maintenance Easy

Down To Earth Construction Services knows that proper preventative maintenance can extend the life of your septic system. Systems that are not regularly maintained will average less than 20 years, however studies conducted by field professors, scientists and engineers reveal that proper maintenance can help a septic system to last indefinitely. This can save homeowners thousands of dollars over a lifetime.

Our septic services give our residential and commercial clients peace of mind in knowing that their septic system is being properly maintained, checked and monitored. Today we have septic services for those customers in Freetown, Berkley, Dighton, Acushnet and Lakeville MA

We provide our customers on a service contract with regular monitoring of the entire septic system. We service septic systems in a quarterly, biannual or annual basis depending on the septic system and the needs of our client. For example a busy restaurant’s septic system will require more regular services that a small home belonging to a retired couple. Once an appointment has been scheduled our customers do not even usually need to be home for the service which makes septic system maintenance as hassle free as possible. If you would be interested in a septic service or if you have any questions about septic systems or septic system maintenance please contact us at our Norton Office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Septic Repairs Are Necessary When Cold Weather Causes Septic Problems

Down to Earth Construction Services know that septic problems arise whatever the weather is. However cold weather brings its own set of problems for example:

  • If you have a ‘summer home’ or go away and leave your property for periods of time or just use it part of the week wastewater does not enter the system regularly enough and can freeze

  • If you drive over your septic leach field or drainfield you compact your soil. Compacted soil freezes more easily which can result in damaged parts and possible a failing septic system. If it is snowy and you drive over the snow on your system the snow will then provide less insulation for your septic system than snow which has been left untouched

  • If you don’t have enough vegetative cover over your septic system you have less insulation from the cold

  • Leaks in your plumbing release water into the septic which can then freeze

  • Poor pipe drainage can be caused by deteriorated pipes, if they are full or back filled with soil or poorly installed. Liquid will pool on one side and can then freeze

Essentially the cold can lead to your septic system freezing which leads to problems, possible repairs and even septic failures. Ironically snow falling is a good thing. Fresh snow is an excellent insulator. As it gets compacted it becomes less effective but it is better than a complete lack of snow cover, dry soil conditions and very cold air temperatures for an extended period of time which will all contribute to septic problems. Today we have appointments in Foxboro, Franklin, Bellingham, Blackstone and Wrentham for septic repairs, some of which are caused by septic system owners not planning for the cold weather. If you have any questions about septic system or need to have a septic repair please do contact our Norton Office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Winter Weather Can Disrupt Title 5 Inspections

Down to Earth Construction Services were as surprised as many of our customers about the amount of snow that fell in this region overnight. Unfortunately some of the Title 5 Inspections that we had scheduled in Marion, Mattapoisett, Swansea, Fairhaven and Fall River could not take place because our customers could not get to the site or the septic system could not be accessed. However whether our inspector or customer can not get to the location of the inspection due to weather conditions or if the septic system is not accessible or for another reason there is no need for property owners to panic when they need the septic inspection for a property sale. Massachusetts Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs know that we live in a state where the weather can, a regularly does, effect plans. Therefore it is stated on the Mas Gov website:

“If weather conditions prevent an inspection before a sale, Title 5 allows the inspection to be done up to 6 months afterwards, provided that the seller notifies the buyer in writing of the need to complete the inspection.” For more information see:

https://www.mass.gov/guides/buying-or-selling-property-with-a-septic-system

If for any reason the inspection can not take place we will always endeavour to reschedule the inspection as quickly as possible at a time that is convenient. If you have any questions or wish to schedule a septic inspection please do contact our Norton Office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

D-Box Repair Today In Attleboro MA

Down to Earth Construction Services are replacing a D-Box for a customer today in Attleboro, MA. A septic distribution box  (D-Box) is a container used to receive septic system effluent from a septic tank and to re-distribute the effluent into a network of attached drainfield or soakaway bed absorption trenches and pipes. The D-Box works by gravity, flowing effluent into the drainfield (or leach field) piping network. It must be installed correctly to ensure that it  distributes evenly. You must also maintain your septic system and the best way to do this is to have your system regularly pumped and to use your septic system correctly. The following are some steps that you can take to ensure that your system can work correctly:

  • Minimize the use of the garbage disposal

  • Do not put grease down your drains

  • Spread loads of laundry out over time rather than doing multiple loads in a short period of time, and use liquid detergents rather than powdered detergents

  • Avoid excessively long showers

  • Avoid leaving tap water running when shaving, brushing teeth or doing other personal or household tasks

  • Do not flush medications, harmful chemicals, excessive amounts of bleach, harsh drain cleaners or degreasers

  • Have the septic tank pumped at least every three years

  • Do not add any septic systems cleaners, enzymes or additives

  • Remove water conditioning backwash discharges from the septic system

  • Do not plant trees and shrubs over leach fields

  • Do not flush personal products, paper towels, wipes or diapers

  • Do not clean or rinse paint brushes in the sinks

  • Equip all hot tubs, spas, whirlpool baths, etcetera with drain limiting valves that will only allow five gallons per minute to drain from fixture

  • Do not drive vehicles over leach fields

We also have septic repairs for customers today in Norton, Berkley, Acushnet and Rochester MA. Many of these repairs could have been avoided if the property owners had followed some of the above advice. If you need a septic repair or if you have any questions please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Down to Earth Construction Services Provides Soil Evaluations, PERC Testing And Septic Engineering Services

Down to Earth Construction Services provides soil evaluations, PERC Testing and Septic Engineering services to our clients when requested. Our trained experts at Down to Earth Construction Services can assist with all your septic engineering needs. We can provide services to improve or repair your property such as soil evaluations, septic design, land use planning, and construction layouts for large or small commercial developments.  We understand the details of septic requirements for Massachusett and we will work with you and local code enforcement to ensure the design of your new or upgraded septic system will meet all required local laws and code.

We are doing a PERC (percolation) test today for a customer in Swansea MA. A perc test, or percolation test, is a soil test that is performed before installing a septic system tank. The perc test is extremely important because it measures the level of liquid absorption of the soil where the proposed septic tank will be located. It determines how quickly the material from the septic system will be absorbed into the soil. We have recently also provided  septic engineering services to clients in Holliston, Raynham and Taunton MA. If you would be interested in these services or if you have any questions please do contact our office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com
