Septic Repair For a Home In Norton MA

Down to Earth Construction Services know that it is sometimes hard to know what you can and can’t do when you own a property which is serviced by its own septic system. We are called out to many septic repairs that result from the property owner inadvertently doing something that has caused a problem. For example today one of our septic repairs at a home in Norton MA resulted from a homeowner not realizing that drain openers can cause significant problems with your septic system if they are used in excess. Don’t use harsh chemical drain openers if you experience a clogged drain. Septic system owners should use an alternative solution of a 1:1:1 ratio of salt, baking soda and vinegar. Follow this solution with boiling water or use a drain snake to clear out the clogs. The chemicals that are used in store-bought drain cleaners can cause serious problems within your septic system. We have other septic repair appointments in Berkley, Dighton, Taunton, Freetown and Middleboro MA. If you require a septic repair or if you have any questions about septic systems please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Sewage Grinder Pump Repair To Ensure Customer Septic System Continues To Operate

Down to Earth Construction Services know that all parts of your septic system need to be operating to ensure that it is working efficiently and correctly. We have experience repairing all parts of your septic system should it become necessary, even the ones that sound unpleasant and awkward to fix. Some septic systems are fitted with a sewage grinder pump. Waste from water-using household appliances (toilets, bathtubs, washing machines, etc.) flows through your home’s pipes into the grinder pump’s holding tank. Once the wastewater inside the tank reaches a specific level, the pump will turn on, grind the waste into a fine slurry, and pump it to the central sewer system or septic tank. A sewage grinder pump does what the name suggests and is not something that you want to leave inoperative because more serious breakdowns and larger repairs may then be necessary. Today we are providing a sewage grinder pump repair for a customer in Wayland MA. We also have other septic repairs scheduled in Berlin, Bolton, Clinton, Southborough and Upton MA. If you require a septic repair or if you have concerns about your septic system please do contact our Norton office where we will be happy to answer any questions you have an book an appointment if necessary on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Safety When Operating Equipment For A Septic Installation, Repairs and Other Work Is Our Priority

Down to Earth Construction Services have the equipment and training to safely carry out all of your septic installation and septic repair requirements no matter what tools are needed for the job. For example in our June monthly safety meeting we covered cut off saw safety and chain saw safetey. Whether our technicians are out in the field using heavy excavators for the excavation work required for a large septic installation or in the office writing reports or producing septic designs we want our staff and customers to be safe. Today we have a septic installation starting in West Bridgewater and initially our technicians will need to use the chainsaw to clear undergrowth back. If you require a septic installation, septic design, septic repair or any other septic work or if you have any questions about septic systems please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

The Smell Of Sewage Could Indicate You Have A Septic Problem

Down to Earth Construction Services know that septic systems always need to be maintained and occasionally you may also have a septic problem come up that needs to be addressed. Ignoring a septic concern until you have the time or money to deal with it will often mean that it could become a bigger septic problem which is never a good thing. A small concern of septic sewage smells coming from your plumbing if addressed quickly can sometimes be easily, quickly and inexpensively fixed. However if you ignore signs of a septic problem your small issue could become a large septic failure which could be an expensive and disruptive repair. Today we are at a customer site in Bridgewater MA providing a simple repair that could have been a much bigger and more expensive septic problem to fix if the home owners had ignored the sewage smells coming from their system much longer.  We also have septic repairs scheduled for other customers in Mansfield, Taunton, Norton, Sharon and Canton MA. If you have questions about your septic system or need to schedule a septic repair please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Using Chemical Drain Unblockers Can Result In A Septic Repair Being Necessary

Down to Earth Construction Services know how annoying it is when you pull the plug on your sink and the water doesn’t drain away. Luckily there are a lot of drain unblocking products on the market which quickly deal with blockages. However no matter how easy and tempting it is to use one of these products, if you have a septic system it is wise to use an alternative method. If your drain is clogged a harsh chemical drain opener bought in the store can cause serious problems with your septic system. Septic system owners should use an alternative solution: a 1:1:1 ratio of salt, baking soda and vinegar. Follow this solution with boiling water or use a drain snake to clear out the clogs. Today we have septic repairs scheduled for customers who have contacted us because they have noticed that their septic system is not operating correctly. Often a septic breakdown is the result of a system not being used correctly and the cost and disruption could have therefore been avoided if the property owner had been better educated in the precautions to take when your property is supported with a septic system. We have appointments for septic repairs in Plainville, Wrentham, Rehoboth, Sharon, Norton and Mansfield MA. If you require a septic repair or if you have questions about your septic system please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit http://www.downtoearthconst.com

Look After Your Septic System Bacteria Or You May Require A Septic Repair

Down to Earth Construction Services have found that many property owners, even those with septic systems, are not aware that for your septic system to work properly there needs to be a balance of bacteria which help breakdown waste so it can be processed. It is important to not disrupt this balance because then your septic system will not operate correctly. Important things to remember are:

Drain Openers – DO NOT use harsh chemical drain openers if you experience a clogged drain. Septic system owners should use an alternative solution: a 1:1:1 ratio of salt, baking soda and vinegar. Follow this solution with boiling water or use a drain snake to clear out the clogs. The chemicals that are used in today’s store-bought drain cleaners can cause serious problems within your septic system.

Cleaning Supplies – Chemicals can be damaging to your system as well. Instead of harsh cleansers, choose mild or natural cleaning supplies for your kitchen and bathrooms. Look for supplies that are “septic-safe” or that are marketed as being bio-degradable. These products will be approved for use in septic systems.

Antibacterial soaps and bleach – These can actually inhibit the enzymatic action that is required for the bacterial breakdown of solids within your septic tank. Add a laundry filter to your washing machine and use natural cleaning supplies whenever possible. If you have a water softener installed in your home, make sure that the salt recharge solution is redirected out of the septic tank.

We regularly attend septic repairs for customers who could have avoided a septic breakdown by following the above advice. Today we have septic repair appointments in Dighton, Berkley, East Bridgewater, Middleboro, Norton and Attleboro MA. If you require a septic repair or if you have any questions about septic systems please do contact our Norton Office on 508-622-5759 or visit http://www.downtoearthconst.com

You Need To Protect Your Septic System’s Leach Field

Down to Earth Construction Services are experienced repairing all parts of your septic system. We have found that many property owners who have a septic system are aware that their system has a septic tank but are often unaware of their systems’ leach field, its purpose or its location. This makes it much more likely that they will inadvertently damage it. Although your septic system leach field (also called a drain field or absorption field) generally does not require maintenance, you should adhere to the following rules to protect and prolong its functional life:

  • Do not drive over the absorption field with cars, trucks, or heavy equipment.
  • Do not plant trees or shrubbery in the absorption field area, because the roots can get into the lines and plug them.
  • Do not cover the absorption field with hard surfaces, such as concrete or asphalt. Grass is the best cover, because it will help prevent erosion and help remove excess water.
  • Do divert surface runoff water from roofs, patios, driveways, and other areas away from the absorption field.

Today we are providing leach field repairs and replacement. For one customer in Bellingham MA we are installing a White Knight™ Microbial Inoculator/Generator, an economical, environmentally sound and permanent alternative to drain field replacement. In nature, oxygen-using (aerobic) bacteria in the soil consume non-living organic material. This is the process nature uses to “recycle” wastes. We install the White Knight™ Microbial Inoculator/Generator in the septic tank to create an oxygen rich environment and cultivate an extensive colony of these same soil bacteria. The result is nearly complete consumption of the organic materials entering the septic tank. At the same time, the bacteria are carried into the leach field where they consume the organic material that has accumulated in the underlying soil. The drain field regains and/or maintains is capacity to deliver effluent to the soil for purification. We are also repairing leach fields for customers in Blackstone, Upton and Wrentham MA. If you are concerned that your septic system is not operating correctly, you need to schedule a septic repair or if you have questions about your septic system please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit http://www.downtoearthconst.com

To Avoid A Septic Problem Be Aware Of What Should Not Be Flushed

Down to Earth Construction Services provide advice to their customers to ensure that they use their septic systems correctly and are therefore less likely to have a septic system problem. It is important to take good care of your septic system so you should know which items should never be flushed down the drain or toilet. This is because these things can overtax or destroy the biological digestion taking place within the system or clog pumps and pipes which will result in a septic problem.

Take care not to flush the following:

  • hair combings, dental floss, gauze bandages or disposable diapers
  • sanitary napkins, tampons, cigarette butts, or condoms
  • fat, grease or oil, coffee grounds, paper towels or cat litter
  • chemicals that could contaminate surface and groundwater, such as paints, varnishes thinners, waste oils, photographic solutions, or pesticides

Unfortunately we have attended many septic repairs that could have been avoided if this advice had been followed. Today we have septic repair appointments in Dighton, Rochester, Rehoboth, Berkley, Lakeville and Middleboro MA. If you require a septic repair, think you may have a septic problem or if you have any questions please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit http://www.downtoearthconst.com

Your Leach Field Is As Important As Your Septic Tank To Your Septic System

Down to Earth Construction Services have been contacted by a customer in North Attleboro who requires a leach field repair. Many septic system problems are actually problems associated with the leach field and not the septic tank. Most people who have a septic system know they have a septic tank and where it is located but many do not realize the importance of a leach field to their septic system. Here are some ways to avoid problems:

  • Never park a car or heavy equipment over your leach field.
  • Don’t have heavy items or traffic on your leach field
  • Have your septic tank pumped regularly (every 3-5 years usually). Sludge overload near the drain field can result in sulfite and bio-mat buildup
  • Don’t pour grease, oil or fats down your sink
  • Never plant any new trees or large plants or bushes near your leach field
