Down to Earth Construction Services has extensive experience installing entirely new septic systems and upgrading existing septic systems. We are also regularly required to repair or replace components of existing septic systems to enable them to keep working, correctly, for many more years. Today we are replacing a D-Box for a customer in Attleboro MA. The septic system D-Box or distribution box is just what its name implies. It distributes wastewater that exits the septic tank into the leach field or drain field. A properly functioning D-Box will do this evenily so the entire field is used and does not get clogged due to uneven distribution. We have other septic repairs today, which include the repair of a septic pump, in Norton, Freetown, Taunton, Rehoboth and Rochester MA. If you require a septic repair or septic upgrade or installation please do contact our Norton Office where were will be happy to answer any questions that you have on 508-622-5759 or visit Down To Earth Construction Services
Down to Earth Construction Services have the experience and knowledge to identify and repair septic problems when they arise for our customers. Today we are replacing an outlet baffle for a customer in North Attleboro, MA. The outlet baffle directs the flow of effluent from the tank to the drainfield or leach field; it prevents the scum layer from going straight into the outlet pipe and causing drainfield clogs and premature system failure. Our customer had noticed sewage smells coming from their septic system and chose to contact us to investigate the issue. We were able to determine that the cause was a defective outlet baffle and will be able to replace the baffle and therefore ensure that the smell will disappear but more importantly there won’t be any larger and more serious problems created by this issue. We also have septic repairs including a septic pump repair today in Wrentham, Plainville, Blackstone and Foxboro MA. If you are concerned that you require a septic repair or if you have any questions about your septic system please do contact our Norton Office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com
Down to Earth Construction Services have been contacted by a client in Sharon MA who suspects that they have a leach field problem so they require a septic repair. They have noticed a sewage smell in their yard around the leach field area and there is a consistent wet, sogginess on the field. Other signs that you may have a problem can include lush vegetation over the leach field, frequent pumping of the tank being required, and/or slow drains.
Leach fields fail for two primary reasons. The main reason is referred to as biological clogging. This is the development of a biomat beneath the leachfield that eventually prevents the liquid or effluent from entering the underlying soil. This biomat is a combination of fine organic solids that have been carried out of the septic tank and the remnants of anaerobic bacteria. These bacteria originate in the human intestinal tract and enter the septic system with the waste products. 95% of all leach field failures are biological. The second primary reason is referred to as a mechanical failure. This could be a structural collapse of the leach field piping or chambers, root intrusion, or fine non-organic materials that are washed down to the bottom of the leach field and seal the soil.
Down to Earth Construction Services have many years experience identifying and repairing leach field problems and will find locate and solve our client’s leach field problem. Down to Earth Construction Services knows that if you own a home with a septic system or cesspool and plan to put it up for sale, add a bedroom, or change its use, you will need to get a system inspection. Title 5 of the State Environmental Code protects us by requiring inspection of private sewage disposal systems. Local boards of health receive these inspection reports. Most systems will pass inspection. Title 5 requires the replacement or upgrade of systems that fail. If your system fails inspection, Title 5 allows up to 2 years to complete repairs or an upgrade. For more information on Title 5 requirements see: https://www.mass.gov/guides/consumer-protection-tips-septic-system-inspections-and-repairs Today we have septic repairs scheduled for a client who is planning to sell their home in Acushnet MA but failed their septic inspection. Down to Earth Construction Services would prefer to provide education to its customers, where possible, to prevent them from having to call us out for unnecessary septic repairs which could have been avoided if the property owner knew more about how to use their septic system. One of the main things that homeowners need to consider is what not to introduce to their septic system. Somethings seem clear – do not flush clothing, cat litter, toys, tools, diapers. These are all items that can clog your system which can possibly lead to a breakdown and will certainly result in your needing to have your system pumped more regularly than usual. However what may not seem as obvious are other items that should not be flushed either such as ‘flushable’ wipes, feminine hygiene products, fats, oils and grease. These are also items that can clog your system and fill it up too quickly. Also household cleaners, bleach, paint and some medications like acne lotions should not be introduced to your septic system because they can harm the biological activity that is essential for your septic system to operate correctly. We have septic repairs scheduled today in Fairhaven, Fall River, Rochester, Lakeville, Seekonk and Swansea MA. If you require a septic repair or if you have any questions about your septic system please do contact us at our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Down to Earth Construction Services have a septic repair scheduled today for a customer in Rochester MA. Our client unknowingly planted trees in close proximity to their septic tank and leach field a number of years ago. As the trees have matured and their root systems have extended they have caused damage to the leach field and septic tank of their septic system. We are providing extensive septic repairs which include repairs and replacement of piping and the tank. It is always a good idea to simply have grass covering your septic leach field because large plants, trees and bushes can cause septic problems as we have seen today. We have additional septic repairs scheduled in Freetown, Marion, Mattapoisett, Fairhaven and Fall River. If you need a septic repair or if you have any questions please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com
Down to Earth Construction Services can provide our customers with septic system repairs on all parts of their system. Today we are replacing a d-box for a customer in Sharon MA. A septic distribution box (D-Box) is a container used to receive septic system effluent from a septic tank and to re-distribute the effluent into a network of attached drain field or leach field absorption trenches and pipes. The D-box works by gravity, flowing effluent into the drainfield (or leach field) piping network. It must be installed correctly to ensure that it distributes evenly. We are also assisting our customer with locating their leach field for easement and have the appropriate permission from their neighbour to do so. This may seem unnecessary but if a homeowner has moved into a property but was not provided with property designs or as built drawings for their property they may be unaware of the location of their septic system components. If your septic system is working correctly there should be very little evidence of the location of a leach field. However we have extensive experience with septic systems so will be able to locate a leach field when a homeowner may not be able to do so. We also have additional septic system repairs scheduled today in Mansfield, Norton, Taunton, Canton and Foxboro MA. If you require septic system repairs or if you have any questions about septic systems please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit http://www.downtoearthconst.com
Down to Earth Construction Services regularly carry out septic repairs and septic maintenance for customers on all types and parts of septic systems. Today we are replacing a pump panel, float and pump for a customer in Acushnet MA. Some septic systems include a pump and float. A control float in your septic system is set so that a specific volume of effluent is sent to your drain field. This specific amount is referred to as a dose. When the effluent in the tank rises to the level of the “on” float the pump is activated and pumps the level of the effluent down until it reaches the “off” float setting. Of course if these components are not operating correctly or totally fail you will then require a repair or replacement. We also have other septic repairs and some septic maintenance scheduled today in Seekonk, Swansea, Freetown and Norton MA. If you require a septic repair or have questions about your septic system please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com where we would be happy to help you.
