Leach Field Repair In Rochester MA Necessary

Down to Earth Construction Services know that in the beautiful New England Summer many people are out in their yards planting and gardening. Unfortunately when you are planting large shrubs or trees in your yard if you do so on your leach field you can unknowingly create a septic problem. The roots and sometimes weight of plants can actually damage your drain field which means that your septic system is no longer working correctly.  Septic systems do an amazing job of returning liquids to the soil for purification but the whole system needs to be functioning correctly for this to happen. When septic system failure occurs, the conditions they create are dangerous. These can include:

  • Hazardous sewage surfacing in yard

  • Health hazards to children and pets

  • Noxious odors over large areas

  • Polluted streams and ponds

  • Sewage back-up in buildings

  • Contaminated wells

  • Breeding areas for mosquitoes

Today we are at a customer’s home in Rochester, MA repairing their leach field which has been damaged when they planed an orchard over it last year. The roots combined with heavy machinery being parked on the drainfield during construction have both lead to the structural collapse of the leach field piping. A strong sewage odor and dampness over their yard was luckily a sign of a septic problem that the homeowners did not ignore. We can repair the damage so they do not have to worry about the consequences of an inoperative septic system. We also have other septic repairs scheduled today in Rochester, Seekonk, Fairhaven, Fall River and Mattapoisett MA. If you require a septic repair or if you have any questions about septic systems please do call us at our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Septic System Upgrade Starting In Norton MA

Down to Earth Construction Services know that septic systems are rated according to their bedroom capacity. When someone says the septic system is “rated” for four bedrooms, it means that the system will handle the waste generated by four bedrooms. It has nothing to do with a number of bathrooms in a home. When you stop to think about it this does make sense because a septic system gets used by people in the property which is better determined by the number of bedrooms and not the number of bathrooms. However property owners must be aware that their system can be overextended either when you have many more people visiting your home or living in it for an extended period of time. Likewise if many appliances are used at one time – dishwasher, washing machine, shower this can also overload a septic system. The decomposition process can become strained if there is too much excess water in the system, resulting in a variety of problems. If you add a bedroom to your home or your septic system is not supporting the volume of wastewater produced you will need a septic system upgrade to a larger septic system. We have extensive experience with septic system installations and can ensure that you will get a septic system that will be appropriate to your requirements. We have recently provided septic system installations for properties in Uxbridge, Mattapoisett and East Bridgewater MA.Today we are starting a septic system upgrade in Norton MA. If you require a septic system installation or if you have any questions about septic systems please do contact our office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

When Do You Need A Title 5 Septic Inspection?

Down to Earth Construction Services has Title 5 Septic Inspections scheduled for customers today in Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, Fall River, Marion and Freetown MA.

Massachusetts requires that you have a Title 5 Septic Inspection in the following instances:

  • Within 2 years before a sale. If weather conditions prevent inspection at the time of a sale, the inspection must take place within 6 months afterward.

  • When there is a proposed change to the facility which requires a building or occupancy permit.

  • Any change in the footprint of a building, to make sure that new building construction will not take place on top of any system components or on the system’s reserve area.

  • For large systems with a design flow of 10,000 to 15,000 gallons per day or more at full build-out, on the basin schedule shown in 310 CMR 15.301(6), and every five years thereafter.

  • Every 3 years for shared systems.

  • When the property is divided, or ownership of 2 or more properties is combined.

  • When MassDEP or the local Board of Health orders an inspection

For more information see https://www.mass.gov/guides/buying-or-selling-property-with-a-septic-system

A large portion of the inspections that we conduct are for property owners who are selling their property which has a septic system, either a commercial or residential. This is because most sellers have not bought their property in the last two years so do not have a current Title 5 Inspection for their property. The good news is that once it has been done it is valid for 2 years so once you have decided you are selling your property it is always a good idea to have the inspection done early in the sale process. You know it is likely that you will sell in two years so it will remain current and you will not have to worry about it causing delays later when you have sale deadlines. An inspection may highlight a problem and you will have time to fix it and once your property has passed its septic inspection that is another selling point. If you require a Title 5 Septic inspection, for any reason, or have questions about septic inspections or septic systems please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Cesspool Maintenance Is Important To Ensure You Do Not Pollute Your Environment

Down to Earth Construction Services has cesspool maintenance appointments today in Mattapoisett, Marion, Fairhaven, Swansea, Fall River and Freetown MA. A cesspool is any pit or container that receives wastewater from a house or building. The term “cesspool” is usually used to refer to an open pit that is lined with rocks or concrete, but an underground tank or holding container that is not connected to a drainfield can also be defined as a cesspool. The main function of cesspools is the storage of wastewater. The use of cesspools may overload the capacity of the soil to remove bacteria, viruses, and phosphorus, and to nitrify ammonia and organic nitrogen compounds. Cesspools are only found servicing older properties because other more efficient means of waste treatment are now available. We provide cesspool services and repairs and have also provided cesspool replacement when required. We recently replaced a cesspool for a customer in Southborough MA because it was starting to pollute the local groundwater. Ongoing cesspool maintenance by having it serviced and having pumpouts is especially important because to sustain the integrity of the environment you need to ensure your cesspool is operating correctly and the surrounding area is not saturated. If you have any questions about cesspools or wish to schedule a cesspool service please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit http://www.downtoearthconst.com
