Do You Know Why A D-Box Is An Essential Part Of Your Septic System?

Down to Earth Construction Services know that most people would not know what all the parts of a septic system are let alone what they do, even if they have a septic system servicing their own property. And that is perfectly normal, especially if you have a company such as Down to Earth Construction Services to rely upon to give you septic support when you need it. Today we have a D-Box replacement scheduled for a customer in East Bridgewater MA. This is an essential septic repair because your D-Box is a very important part of your septic system. The D-Box is not there to support an A, B and C Box as we have been asked before. D-Box stands for ‘Distribution Box’ and does exactly what you might expect. The distribution box is a component of the leach field system. The job of the distribution box is to evenly distribute the wastewater into the leach field (also known as the drain field). How does the septic distribution box work? Gravity plays a major role in helping the distribution box do its job or if that is not possible a septic pump is used. The water flows downhill where the distribution box is placed. This allows the water to flow into the box from the septic tank and then onto the leach field. Once the wastewater flows out of the septic tank it will move into the septic distribution box and out to the leach field lines. The size and shape of the box depends on the type of septic tank you have. A distribution box is most commonly made out of concrete or plastic and has several openings for the leach field lines where the wastewater can flow out. The distribution box is a major part of the septic system and it being able to function properly is very important. If the distribution box isn’t working correctly you will soon be dealing with leach field failure. Distribution boxes are most often worn down by time due to weather, like flooding and freezing, and improper care of the septic system. We will be able to provide a D-box replacement for our client before it caused any lasting damage to their leach field. We also have other septic repairs scheduled today in Mansfield, Stoughton, Canton, Sharon and Foxboro MA. If you require a D-Box replacement or septic repair or if you have any questions about your septic system please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit http://downtoearthconst.com/septic-services/

Down To Earth Construction Services Provide Septic Engineering Services

Down to Earth Construction Services offer so much more than septic ‘construction’. While we certainly use our experience in this area to provide excavation, septic installation and extensive repairs to septic systems we also have the skills and knowledge for septic engineering services such as providing septic designs, soil evaluations, construction layouts and perc tests. Today we have a perc test, or percolation test, for a customer in Norton MA. A perc test evaluates the rate at which water drains through soil. This is extremely important to know before you install a septic system because you need to know the level of liquid absorption into the soil in order to design the system which includes the leach field or drain field, where wastewater percolates back into the soil after the solids have settled into the septic tank. The typical size of a drain field is determined by the expected volume of waste water to be discharged from the septic system (which is usually estimated based on the size of the proposed building) and of course the speed at which the liquid can drain which is determined by the perc test is essential information. The perc test is conducted by drilling or digging a hole in the ground, pouring water into the hole and then observing the rate at which the water is absorbed into the soil. We have provided other septic engineering services to customers throughout the region including recently in Marshfield, West Bridgewater and Berlin MA. If you require septic engineering services or if you have any questions regarding for septic system please do contact our Norton Office on 508-622-5759 or visit Down to Earth Construction Services

Septic Inspections and Voluntary Septic Assessments Carried Out Today

Down to Earth Construction Services’ licensed septic inspectors have been carrying out thorough and reliable septic system inspections in Massachusetts for over 25 years. As stated by the Mass Gov Website Title 5 Septic Inspections are required:

  • Within 2 years before a sale. If weather conditions prevent inspection at the time of a sale, the inspection must take place within 6 months afterward.

  • When there is a proposed change to the facility which requires a building or occupancy permit.

  • Any change in the footprint of a building, to make sure that new building construction will not take place on top of any system components or on the system’s reserve area.

  • For large systems with a design flow of 10,000 to 15,000 gallons per day or more at full build-out, on the basin schedule shown in 310 CMR 15.301(6), and every five years thereafter.

  • Every 3 years for shared systems.

  • When the property is divided, or ownership of 2 or more properties is combined.

  • When MassDEP or the local Board of Health orders an inspection.

The majority of our inspections are for a property transfer, often scheduled by the seller but sometimes we provide an inspection for the buyer of a home with a septic system. Today we have septic system inspections scheduled in Seekonk, Fairhaven, Rehoboth, Fall River and Lakeville MA and most are for property transfers but one is for a voluntary septic assessment. Mass Gov States that

“A system owner may choose voluntarily to have an assessment of the condition of the system even if there is no requirement for an inspection. Results of these voluntary assessments are solely for the use of the owner, and do not need to be submitted to local Boards of Health or MassDEP.”

Property owners are likely to schedule a voluntary assessment of their septic system because the want to know its condition and see if maintenance or repairs are required. This is important because failing systems can:

  • cause a serious health threat to your family and neighbors,

  • degrade the environment, especially lakes, streams and groundwater,

  • reduce the value of your property,

  • be very expensive to repair,

  • and put thousands of water supply users at risk if you live in a public water supply watershed and fail to maintain your system

If you need to schedule a septic system inspection, for any reason, or if you have questions about septic inspections please do contact us at our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit Down to Earth Construction Services

Winter Weather Can Create Septic Problems

Down to Earth Construction Services know, just like all other New Englanders, that storms and weather are a part of living in this region. However the severe winter storms can result in property damage which can affect septic systems just like other parts of your property. Just like with other parts of your home or business it is never wise to ignore signs of septic problems and hope it might go away. Signs of a septic issue can include:

  • All of the drains from the house are slow
  • There is a persistent wet area over the leach field
  • Sewage is surfacing in the area of the septic tank or distribution box
  • There is sewage seeping through the foundation
  • The liquid level in the leach field is at the top of the crushed rock layer, the chambers or other underground structures
  • The vegetation over the leach field is greener and more lush than over adjacent areas in the yard
  • There is sewage odor in the yard at times or constantly
  • There is flow back from the leach field when the septic tank is pumped
  • The septic tank needs to be pumped frequently
  • The septic tank discharge baffle is damaged or missing
  • Rain water seems to take longer to disappear over the leach field than over adjacent areas in the yard
  • Well water is contaminated

Today we have septic repairs scheduled for customers in Raynham, Dighton, Berkley, Taunton and Bridgewater MA and some of these septic problems could have been avoided if the property owner had been more aware of the signs to look for that indicate a potential septic issue. If you require a septic repair or if you have concerns that you wish to discuss please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit Down to Earth Construction Services

Septic System Upgrades Today In Rochester and North Attleboro MA

Down to Earth Construction Services not only help our septic customers with their septic problems and breakdowns with septic repairs but can also provide septic system upgrades to improve their septic systems. Basic septic tank upgrades can simplify maintenance, improve system function, and protect your drainfield for long-term savings. Access risers and effluent filters are two low-cost improvements for existing or new tanks that we can provide. We are installing an access risers on to the septic tank for a customer today in North Attleboro MA. The riser will help the owner and inspectors easily locate the tank, and they provide access for maintenance and repair. They also avoid the need to repeatedly dig up the lawn for routine inspections or pumping. We are installing an effluent filter today for a customer in Rochester MA. An effluent filter is an inexpensive plastic filtering device that fits into the outlet end of the septic tank. The screen helps prevent solids from leaving the tank and clogging the drainfield, one of the most common causes of septic system failure. We have already recently provided septic system upgrades for customers in Swansea, Fall River and Oxford MA. If you would be interested in septic system upgrades or if you have any questions about our septic services or septic systems please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit Down to Earth Construction Services
