Septic Alarms Installed and Investigated

Down to Earth Construction Services are experienced working with septic systems and because we have extensive knowledge of septic systems we can use this to diagnose septic problems to find the source of the issue and to carry out a septic repair when required. Today we are installing a septic alarm for a customer in Lakeville MA who wants to have this safeguard inplace to notify them if they have a septic issue that needs to be addressed. This septic alarm is required because their septic system has a septic pump which moves wastewater from the septic tank to the drain field or leach field. If the septic pump is not operating correctly the septic alarm will turn on. We also have an appointment for a customer in Rochester MA who has noticed that their septic alarm is on and they need a septic specialist to locate the problem and fix their septic system. We have extensive experience repairing and replacing septic pumps including Blue Diamond, Hiblow and FujiClean pumps. D-Box Repair Today In Attleboro MA

Down to Earth Construction Services are replacing a D-Box for a customer today in Attleboro, MA. A septic distribution box  (D-Box) is a container used to receive septic system effluent from a septic tank and to re-distribute the effluent into a network of attached drainfield or soakaway bed absorption trenches and pipes. The D-Box works by gravity, flowing effluent into the drainfield (or leach field) piping network. It must be installed correctly to ensure that it  distributes evenly. You must also maintain your septic system and the best way to do this is to have your system regularly pumped and to use your septic system correctly. The following are some steps that you can take to ensure that your system can work correctly:

  • Minimize the use of the garbage disposal

  • Do not put grease down your drains

  • Spread loads of laundry out over time rather than doing multiple loads in a short period of time, and use liquid detergents rather than powdered detergents

  • Avoid excessively long showers

  • Avoid leaving tap water running when shaving, brushing teeth or doing other personal or household tasks

  • Do not flush medications, harmful chemicals, excessive amounts of bleach, harsh drain cleaners or degreasers

  • Have the septic tank pumped at least every three years

  • Do not add any septic systems cleaners, enzymes or additives

  • Remove water conditioning backwash discharges from the septic system

  • Do not plant trees and shrubs over leach fields

  • Do not flush personal products, paper towels, wipes or diapers

  • Do not clean or rinse paint brushes in the sinks

  • Equip all hot tubs, spas, whirlpool baths, etcetera with drain limiting valves that will only allow five gallons per minute to drain from fixture

  • Do not drive vehicles over leach fields

We also have septic repairs for customers today in Norton, Berkley, Acushnet and Rochester MA. Many of these repairs could have been avoided if the property owners had followed some of the above advice. If you need a septic repair or if you have any questions please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Title 5 Inspections And Voluntary Septic Assessments In Massachusetts

Down To Earth Construction Services wishes everyone a very happy 2018! This year promises to be even more successful than the last and we are already very busy with septic appointments for our customers. Today we have Title 5 Septic Inspections scheduled for customers in Rochester, Freetown, Lakeville, Berkley and Dighton MA.  Most of our septic inspections are required because a property owner is selling a home or business that has a septic system and is not on town sewer. However today we are also doing an inspection for a property owner in Acushnet MA who has requested a voluntary septic assessment.

As Stated on MA Gov website:

“A system owner may choose voluntarily to have an assessment of the condition of the system even if there is no requirement for an inspection. Results of these voluntary assessments are solely for the use of the owner, and do not need to be submitted to local Boards of Health or MassDEP.”

For more information see

https://www.mass.gov/guides/buying-or-selling-property-with-a-septic-system

Many property owners are unaware that they have the ability to hire a licensed inspector to perform Confidential Voluntary Septic Assessments of their septic systems. These inspections are completed just as they would be according to the Title 5 Inspections required by the State of Massachusetts, but the findings are NOT reported to any other person, municipality or office outside of the homeowner.

Once the inspection is complete, the homeowner will receive a thorough report along with an assessment of the findings and some recommendations on how to properly maintain or repair their septic system. The recommendations are designed to increase longevity and prevent future issues, such as property damage, high cost repairs or system replacement.

If you need a Title 5 Septic Inspection or have questions about voluntary septic assessments or septic systems please do contact our Norton Office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Down to Earth Construction Services Are Available For Your Septic Needs Over The Holidays

Down to Earth Construction Services are looking forward to the upcoming holidays. Holidays usually mean good food and spending time with friends and family. However if you are hosting large gatherings it is a good idea to consider your septic system’s limitations when you plan a large event at your home. We have one customer who has a small property with a correspondingly small septic system. However they regularly host large gatherings of friends and family which puts a huge strain on their septic system. They have found that it is more cost effective to hire portable toilets for their events than to have their septic system pumped much more regularly due to the excessive use it gets when more people are using the system. This also reduces the likelihood of associated repairs and failures caused by a septic system that has not been pumped when required. If you are planning a large Christmas Party this holiday season at home or have a lot of extra guests staying at your home for an extended period of time consider your septic system. Sometimes it is worth getting portable toilets in for your party but if you do not make sure you know when your system was last pumped and consider having another pump out after the holidays. Also spread washing loads out over a week rather than doing multiple loads of laundry in one day which can also overload your septic. If you are unsure we are always happy to discuss your concerns. If you do have a septic problem arise we are working over the holidays so please do contact us if you have questions or need to schedule an appointment. Today we have septic repair appointments in Lakeville, Freetown, Rochester and Berkley MA. If you wish to schedule an appointment or if you have any questions regarding your septic system you can reach us at 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com
