There Are A Variety of Instances In Massachusetts When You Are Required To Have A Septic Inspection

Down to Earth Construction Services have septic inspections scheduled today in Mansfield, Holliston, Franklin, Bellingham, Upton, Uxbridge and Sharon MA. The reasons that people schedule inspections are not only because they are selling their home and require an inspection before they can sell. A septic inspection is required in Massachusetts:

  • Within 2 years before a sale. If weather conditions prevent inspection at the time of a sale, the inspection must take place within 6 months afterward.

  • When there is a proposed change to the facility which requires a building or occupancy permit.

  • Any change in the footprint of a building, to make sure that new building construction will not take place on top of any system components or on the system’s reserve area.

  • For large systems with a design flow of 10,000 to 15,000 gallons per day or more at full build-out, on the basin schedule shown in 310 CMR 15.301(6), and every five years thereafter.

  • Every 3 years for shared systems.

  • When the property is divided, or ownership of 2 or more properties is combined.

  • When MassDEP or the local Board of Health orders an inspection.

Cesspool Services Ensure That Your Cesspool Continues To Operate Correctly

Down to Earth Construction Services work with many customers that don’t have conventional septic systems on their property but instead have a cesspool. As stated on the Mass Gov website:

“A cesspool is a pit which acts as both a settling chamber for solids and a leaching system for liquids. The use of cesspools may overload the capacity of the soil to remove bacteria, viruses, and phosphorus, and to nitrify ammonia and organic nitrogen compounds. A conventional septic system has a tank where solids can settle and begin to degrade, a distribution box, and a soil absorption system (SAS) that further treats the effluent by removing some of the bacteria, viruses, phosphorus, and nitrogen.”

Although cesspool are now not installed because there are more efficient and environmentally conscious alternatives Massachusetts does not always require cesspools to be replaced. They state that:

“Only those cesspools that exhibit signs of hydraulic failure, are located extremely close to private or public water supplies, or otherwise fail to protect or pose a threat to public health, safety or the environment will need to be upgraded (310 CMR 15.303). Also, cesspools must be upgraded prior to an increase in design flow (e.g., the addition of a bedroom to a home or seats to a restaurant).”

We provide cesspool services to customers so that they can ensure that their system continues to operate correctly. Today we have cesspool services scheduled in Foxboro, Franklin, Sharon, Mansfield, Wrentham and Norton MA. The Smell Of Sewage Could Indicate You Have A Septic Problem

Down to Earth Construction Services know that septic systems always need to be maintained and occasionally you may also have a septic problem come up that needs to be addressed. Ignoring a septic concern until you have the time or money to deal with it will often mean that it could become a bigger septic problem which is never a good thing. A small concern of septic sewage smells coming from your plumbing if addressed quickly can sometimes be easily, quickly and inexpensively fixed. However if you ignore signs of a septic problem your small issue could become a large septic failure which could be an expensive and disruptive repair. Today we are at a customer site in Bridgewater MA providing a simple repair that could have been a much bigger and more expensive septic problem to fix if the home owners had ignored the sewage smells coming from their system much longer.  We also have septic repairs scheduled for other customers in Mansfield, Taunton, Norton, Sharon and Canton MA. If you have questions about your septic system or need to schedule a septic repair please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit www.downtoearthconst.com

Using Chemical Drain Unblockers Can Result In A Septic Repair Being Necessary

Down to Earth Construction Services know how annoying it is when you pull the plug on your sink and the water doesn’t drain away. Luckily there are a lot of drain unblocking products on the market which quickly deal with blockages. However no matter how easy and tempting it is to use one of these products, if you have a septic system it is wise to use an alternative method. If your drain is clogged a harsh chemical drain opener bought in the store can cause serious problems with your septic system. Septic system owners should use an alternative solution: a 1:1:1 ratio of salt, baking soda and vinegar. Follow this solution with boiling water or use a drain snake to clear out the clogs. Today we have septic repairs scheduled for customers who have contacted us because they have noticed that their septic system is not operating correctly. Often a septic breakdown is the result of a system not being used correctly and the cost and disruption could have therefore been avoided if the property owner had been better educated in the precautions to take when your property is supported with a septic system. We have appointments for septic repairs in Plainville, Wrentham, Rehoboth, Sharon, Norton and Mansfield MA. If you require a septic repair or if you have questions about your septic system please do contact our Norton office on 508-622-5759 or visit https://www.downtoearthconst.com

Septic Installation Starting In Rochester MA

Down to Earth Construction Services has a septic installation starting today in Rochester MA. We are installing a septic system for a customer who needed to replace an old, outdated failing septic system. When septic system failure occurs, the conditions they create are dangerous! • Health hazards to children, neighbours and pets

  • Noxious orders over large areas

  • Polluted streams and ponds

  • Sewage back-up in buildings
